Liu Ziyi was born in Shandong Province in 1940. At an early age, his family moved to Hebei Province. Ziyi was greatly ifluenced by his fathers interest in lterature and caligraphy. Ziyi began to learn art from Zhang Huanting and caligraphy from Ge Mingyue at an early age. At age 18 he began working at a farm machenery plant, studying art at the art school of Chaoyang District at night. In 1962 he quit his job and returned to his hometown to do farm work, still continuing to study art at night. In 1969 he was sent to paint propaganda posters. He learned of Wang Xisan and finally managed to meet him. Wang Xisan passed to him the skills of inside painting. paintings were of ancient women painted with ink. |
