Kang Zhanying was born in 1943 and is a native of Hengshui City. He learned how to paint inside painting portraits from Wang Xisan in 1988. In 1993 he painted a crystal snuff bottle for Samaranch, Chairman of the International Olympic Games, that was presented to him by the Bejing Physical Culture Commissionin Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. In 1994 he painted 2 bottles that were given by the National Education Committee to Shao Yifu in recognition for his large monetary contributions to support education in Hong Kong. On the occasion of celebrating toe 50th anniversary of the founding of modern China, at the invitation of the concerned parties, he painted portraits of the 50 leaders of the democratic parties of China. He is widely known for his portrait painting. which won prizes and achieved great renown in 1989, 1996, and 1999 granted by the Hebei Province.
